Estimation of the development of civil society in Kyiv during wartime and post-war periods, with a specific focus on citizen participation in shaping and implementing state and regional policies

The objective of the work is to assess the level of social and civic activity among the residents of Kyiv, investigate the extent of citizen involvement in the processes of shaping and implementing state and regional policies, as well as the factors that influence the increase or decrease of such involvement. The study aims to identify the most relevant and prior sectors for the socio-economic development of the city during wartime and post-war periods, and to understand the peculiarities of how Kyiv residents perceive and support the direction of urban development in these periods.

Scientific and research, design and research works

Monitoring of residents' perception of state policies in the sphere of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, evaluating the effectiveness of explanatory and communicative work regarding European and Euro-Atlantic integration based on sociological surveys.

Starting from 2020, research has been conducted to monitor changes in the perceptions of Kyiv residents regarding the principles and principles of the NATO alliance’s activities, the prospects of Ukraine’s participation in NATO under modern geopolitical conditions, trends in changing factors that determine the perception of state policy on Euro-Atlantic integration, taking into account new internal and external challenges.

With the onset of large-scale aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, it became relevant to identify changes in public attitudes towards the EU and NATO, as well as the real effective support for our country by international organizations.

Evaluation of the effectiveness of explanatory and communication work in relation to European and and Euro-Atlantic integration among residents of the capital

2019  – The result of the conducted work is an analytical report that includes operationalized indicators of the quantitative toolkit for analyzing the effectiveness of explanatory and communication work on European and Euro-Atlantic integration among the residents of the capital; analysis of survey results according to the indicator system in line with the strategic and operational goals of the research tasks; recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of the explanatory campaign on the benefits of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic development vector among Kyiv residents.

2020 – The result of the conducted work is an analytical report that includes the results of a survey of the capital’s residents in 2020, with a focus on studying Kyiv residents’ assessments of the effectiveness, quality, and meaningfulness of the information campaign on European and Euro-Atlantic integration in Ukraine, as well as their trust levels in various information sources. Social-demographic characteristics of different groups of Kyiv residents are provided based on their self-assessment of knowledge about the activities and structure of the EU and NATO. The dynamics of the capital’s residents’ attitudes towards the EU and NATO over the past years, as well as forecasted assessments regarding Ukraine’s accession to these organizations, are characterized. The most significant factors that influence Kyiv residents’ perceptions of these international organizations and the level of trust in various information sources are identified. Criteria for the level of trust in media information are highlighted, and the dynamics of Kyiv residents’ attitudes towards Ukraine’s foreign policy European course – moving towards the EU and NATO from 2006 to 2020 – are analyzed.

Determining the awareness level of Kyiv residents regarding the public budget as a tool for implementing local democracy.

Analysis of the specificity of Kyiv residents’ awareness regarding the Public Budget instrument (based on the results of the information and communication campaign) and the degree of involvement of various socio-demographic groups in the Public Budget initiative. Additionally, the outline of the features of Kyiv residents’ understanding and assessment of the main stages of the implementation of the Public Budget in Kyiv.

In the process of conducting the scientific research:

 – Was carried out a desk study to construct sociological indicators to determine the level of awareness of Kyiv residents about the Public Budget.

 – Was developed a toolkit for collecting primary sociological information.

 – Was performed Secondary mathematical processing of the survey results, and analytical and summarizing materials were prepared based on the results of the sociological research.
